Using the standard upgrade proceedures, Debian Etch + LVM will fail to upgrade to Debian Lenny gracefully.\u00c2\u00a0 This is due to the kernel modules and is simple to avoid.<\/p>\n

  1. Before changing apt sources (They should be etch)<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. apt-get update<\/li>\n
  3. apt-get upgrade<\/li>\n
  4. reboot if kernel upgrades<\/li>\n
  5. Now change your apt sources\u00c2\u00a0 (Lenny or Stable)<\/strong><\/li>\n
  6. apt-get update<\/li>\n
  7. apt-get upgrade<\/li>\n
  8. NOTE: At this point lvm2 is probably held back.<\/li>\n
  9. Reboot if the kernel upgrades<\/li>\n
  10. NOW do your dist upgrade<\/li>\n
  11. apt-get update<\/li>\n
  12. apt-get dist-upgrade<\/li>\n
  13. NOTE: At this point lvm2 is probably still<\/strong> held back.<\/li>\n
  14. Reboot<\/li>\n
  15. apt-get update<\/li>\n
  16. apt-get install lvm2<\/li>\n
  17. Reboot<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    TADA!\u00c2\u00a0 You have to reboot a couple times, but you never have to touch the configs or the mapper.<\/p>\n
